For many years, we have heard of many 'conspiracy theories'. From the alleged faked lunar landing to the supposed disappearance of Adolph Hitler at the end of WWII and many more. There are some involving 'extraterrestrials' and some involving the founding fathers of the USA.
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 lock down, it seems there has been an explosion of new conspiracy theories! So, it has caused me to ask--are there any conspiracies referred to in the Bible? Could we see what God might call a conspiracy, and if so, what would that conspiracy look like? The Websters New Student Dictionary defines Conspiracy as: An agreement among conspirators. It also defines a Conspirator as: One that conspires: Plotter. Let's look closer at the root word. It states for Conspire: Plot, Contrive. To agree secretly to do an unlawful or wrongful act or to use such means to accomplish a lawful end. With this definition in mind, lets look at God's Word.
Some Bible Examples
As so much of the Bible is historic with many reported battles, as well as much political intrigue, it should not surprise us to learn that there have been many conspiracies reported in the Bible. One that comes to mind is the conspiracy agreed upon between David and Jonathan. Jonathan's father was king Saul, and Jonathan would be the natural successor to his father's throne to reign over Israel. However, Jonathan had other ideas. He had no doubt watched as David confronted Goliath and how God had wrought a great victory over the Philistines because of David's strength and courage. (I Sam 18:3,4 KJV) "(3) Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. (4) And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle." Jonathan was at this point completely willing to disobey his father the king and confer the kingdom to David. This entire account is a massive conspiracy and as good as any we might read about today in the world of politics!
There are also many more, such as Delilah and her conspiracy with the Philistines to rob Samson of his strength-thereby lending him vulnerable to the enemies of Israel. There is the conspiracy of Absalom, son of king David, as he tries to overthrow the kingdom of his father to take it for himself. Furthermore, history is replete with conspiracies! No doubt, many of these conspiracies are real and they are facts of history--others we are considering now may be totally, or partially true as well. But, I would turn your attention to what I believe is the most profound of all conspiracies and the one that under girds all of our current day dilemmas.
Trouble in the Garden
The conspiracy begins with none other than the serpent, controlled by Satan himself, as he asks Eve in the garden of Eden, "yea hath God said"? (Gen 3:1 KJV) This was the beginning of THE conspiracy to doubt God and His Word, and to place man as the authority. One might even say that HERE at this point, the seeds of our current day humanism began. We might even agree with John Lennon at this point and say, just IMAGINE. First came the doubting in verse 1, only to be followed by the outright lie in verse 4, "Ye shall not surely die". But, far worse than just the subtle doubting of God's Word, followed by the blatant lie-- the fall occurred here. This was the beginning of God's good creation, bringing forth weeds and thorns, as well as the bringing forth of death and separation from God. What had begun by God as something good, with man's rebellion, became something bad. Some four thousand years later, the Apostle Paul would make this statement about this event: For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. (Rom. 8:22 KJV-emphasis mine)
Words of Warning
Dear Bible believer, I would ask you to be very careful as you evaluate the many 'conspiracies' that are out there. Remember that behind every carnal action, there is a spiritual motivation. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" (I Peter 5:8 KJV) Let's recognize, that if any one 'conspiracy' should side track us from the clear commands of God's Word, than we have taken the bait!
I hope to write in the not too distant future about a 'conspiracy' related to extra-terrestrials. There is more written on this in scripture than many would expect. This is an opportunity to ask your friends to read and to 'search the scriptures daily'. Please also feel free to post questions and comments. The written word of this blog is simply a tool to carry out the command to 'contend for the faith'. (Jude vs. 3) Some of you may also be wondering how the topic of this blog and the one mentioned above, belong on a creation site. In reality, there is a connection. I look forward to elaborating further on that connection soon. In this great apostasy of the last days, may we be found faithful.
